in association with Globe Travel Centre

We spent seven nights in beautiful Sri Lanka

DAY 1:

IDA sri lanka Tour: Colombo

After arriving at the hotel and enjoying our first Sri Lankan meal, we headed out for a tour of Colombo and visited some of the capital city’s landmarks.

We were then invited to watch a martial arts display, locally known as ‘angampora.’

DAY 2:

IDA Sri Lanka Tour: Dambulla

We drove into the middle of the island today, visiting a town called Dambulla.

We had great fun experiencing a tuk-tuk, boat and bullock cart ride after visiting the Five Temples on a Rock!

Today we went on a Jeep Safari to spot the elephants in their natural habitat at the Minneriya National Park.

After lunch we climbed the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, visiting the ancient ruins of a king’s palace at the very top!
The spectacular view was worth the sweat!

DAY 4:

DAY 4: IDA SRi LANKA Tour: KANDY

Today we visited a local spice garden. It was so interesting! The owner gave us a cooking demonstration and the children had a go at hulling a coconut.

We drove through the ancient town of Kandy and watched a cultural dance performance.

DAY 5:

IDA Kerala Tour: Millennium Elephant Foundation

My favourite day so far... we visited the Millennium Elephant Foundation which was absolutely wonderful.
We fed (hand to trunk!), walked, bathed and even rode the elephants.

Some of the more mischievous ones even sprayed water at us!

DAY 6:

IDA SRI LANKA Tour: Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery

During our final morning on this beautiful island we visited a local school where IDA pupils interacted with Sri Lankan students.
The children played football together and IDA students performed a Mamma Mia number in the football stadium!

We then visited Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, this charity led establishment was built to nurture injured turtles and to encourage successful hatchlings from healthy females.

We saw both one and two day old turtles swimming in their pools and we were lucky enough to hold three day old turtles!

A huge highlight was watching new turtles hatch in the sand in front of our very eyes!

An incredible experience to complete our unforgettable IDA tour of Sri Lanka.
